What happened
A flight originating from Fazenda Santa Maria Airfield, located approximately 116 km west of Formosa do Rio Preto, Bahia, was en route to Brasília when the accident occurred. The single-engine airplane was carrying one pilot and four passengers at the time of the incident.
During the final approach to runway 28 at Brasília-Nelson Piquet Airport, the pilot encountered challenging weather conditions characterized by a crosswind. While attempting a go-around procedure, the aircraft drifted to the left of the runway at a speed of 70 knots. The plane subsequently struck trees and came to a stop 120 metres from the initial departure from the paved surface.
The aircraft impacted a grassy area situated roughly 3 metres past the lateral edge of runway 28. There was no indication that the plane had touched the ground prior to this impact. The surrounding terrain, part of the cerrado biome, features downward-sloping land covered in native vegetation. Although the aircraft type was destroyed in the collision, all five occupants managed to escape the wreckage without any injuries.
Findings
- The pilot attempted to execute a go-around during the approach phase.
- Marginal weather conditions and crosswinds contributed to the aircraft veering off the runway centerline.
