What happened
During an ascent from Runway 05 at New Bedford Airport, a single-engine airplane encountered heavy rain. Following takeoff, the pilot executed two consecutive left-hand turns, reaching a peak altitude of approximately 750 feet. During this maneuver, the aircraft experienced a loss of airspeed and altitude.
The aircraft subsequently struck a vehicle traveling on Highway 195 before impacting an embankment located between two highways. The impact caused the plane to burst into flames. The accident took place roughly 6.6 km southwest of the airport.
