What happened
During the final approach phase to Braunschweig-Wolfsburg Airport, a single-engine aircraft encountered a critical loss of altitude. While descending toward the runway 08 threshold, the aircraft impacted overhead power cables. The impact caused the plane to crash into the Oker River, landing approximately 350 meters short of the runway.
All six occupants on board sustained injuries during the accident. The impact with the cables and the subsequent crash into the river resulted in the total destruction of the aircraft.
Findings
Investigations into the event indicate that the pilot did not maintain a sufficient altitude during the approach. The primary factor in the accident was the failure to monitor the aircraft's altitude relative to obstacles on the approach path.
