Accident Overview
The Swiss Safety Investigation Board (SUST) reopened its investigation into an accident involving a Robin DR 400/180 R, registration HB-EQN, that occurred on 26 August 2016 at 19:06 local time. The aircraft crashed approximately 1 km northeast of Schaffhausen Airfield (LSPF).
Aircraft and Flight Details
The Robin DR 400/180 R, designed for four occupants, was owned and operated by the Segelfluggruppe Schaffhausen. The flight was conducted under Visual Flight Rules (VFR) as a private flight, departing from and destined for Schaffhausen Airfield. On board were the pilot, a Swiss national born in 1967, and three passengers.
Sequence of Events
After taking off from runway 07, the aircraft turned left toward the north. Approximately one minute later, it impacted the ground from a low altitude.
Damage and Injuries
The aircraft was destroyed. The pilot sustained serious injuries. Among the passengers, one was fatally injured and two suffered serious injuries. No third-party injuries were reported. Significant damage to agricultural land occurred.
Investigation Status
The SUST had published a final report on 27 December 2017. However, due to new substantive facts, the investigation was reopened on the basis of Article 49 of the Regulation on the Investigation of Aviation Accidents (VSZV). No probable cause has been stated in this preliminary report.
