Accident Summary
On 16 May 1965, a Grunau Baby II glider, registration HB-87, was involved in an accident at the Sisseln airfield in the canton of Aargau (AG), Switzerland. The aircraft was being operated by a student pilot under winch launch procedures.
Sequence of Events
During the takeoff roll while under winch tow, the student pilot lost control of the glider. The winch cable did not release until after the glider had already become airborne. Subsequently, the glider descended at a relatively steep angle and struck the ground.
Injuries and Damage
The student pilot was uninjured. The glider sustained substantial damage, estimated at 40% of its value.
