What happened
On April 21, 2022, at approximately 15:20 local time, a dangerous close encounter occurred between two powered aircraft over Lake Geneva. The incident took place roughly 2 km south-southeast of La-Tour-de-Peilz.
The first aircraft, a TB 10 with registration HB-KAU, was conducting a private flight under Visual Flight Rules (VFR). This aircraft had departed from Grenchen Airport (LSZG) and was on a return flight to the same location, carrying one pilot and one passenger.
The second aircraft involved was a Robin DR 400/180 R, registered as HB-KBK. This aircraft was operating a private VFR flight, having departed from Gruyères Aerodrome (LSGT) with the intention of returning to the same airfield.
The investigation
The Swiss Transportation Safety Investigation Board (SUST) has opened an investigation to examine the circumstances surrounding this airprox event. The inquiry aims to determine the factors that led to the dangerous proximity between the two aircraft while they were operating in the same airspace.
