What happened
On August 16, 2025, at approximately 14:56 local time, an Aerospool WT9, registration HB-WZN, crashed in a field located in the village of Valeyres-sous-Rances, near Orbe. The aircraft, operated by Air-Club Yverdon, was performing a private flight under Visual Flight Rules (VFR). The pilot was returning to the Yverdon-les-Bains aerodrome (LSGY) following a glider towing operation when the accident occurred. The impact resulted in the destruction of the aircraft and the fatal injury of the pilot.
The investigation
The Swiss Transportation Safety Investigation Board (SUST) has opened an investigation into the occurrence. Preliminary findings indicate that the aircraft was in the process of approaching its departure airfield, LSGY, at the time of the crash. The investigation is currently focused on determining the specific circumstances that led to the loss of control or impact during the approach phase.
