What happened
During an arrival at Mogadishu-South Airport, also known as KM50 or Mogadishu-West Airfield, an aircraft experienced a runway excursion. Upon touching down on the runway, which is composed of pebbles and chippings, the aircraft drifted toward the left side of the strip before veering completely off the paved surface. As the aircraft moved off the runway, the landing gear was lost. The movement continued until the aircraft came to a stop several dozen meters away from the initial point of departure.
All 10 occupants on board survived the incident, though they sustained injuries. The aircraft was determined to be a total loss.
Findings
Investigations into the incident highlight the substandard condition of the airfield's infrastructure. The runway at this location is notably narrow and lacks essential features such as a drainage system or any form of lighting. The surface itself is characterized by poor maintenance and a composition of loose stones and chippings, which contributed to the loss of directional control during the landing phase.
