Accident Sequence
Following takeoff from Musiara Airport, during the initial climb, the crew raised the landing gear and flaps. Approximately 45 seconds after liftoff, the left engine failed. The crew attempted to restart the engine but was unsuccessful. They then decided to divert to Olkiombo Airport, located 18 kilometers from their position. While on approach to runway 09, the aircraft stalled and subsequently crashed in an open field.
Occupants and Damage
The copilot was killed in the accident. Nineteen other occupants sustained injuries, some serious. The aircraft was destroyed.
Probable Cause
The official investigation determined the probable cause to be failure of the left engine during initial climb for unknown reasons.
