What happened
Following departure from Musiara Airport, the flight crew initiated the climb phase by retracting the flaps and landing gear. Approximately 45 seconds after the aircraft left the ground, the left engine ceased operation. In an attempt to restore power, the crew performed a restart procedure, but the engine failed to relight.
Due to the loss of power, the crew determined that an emergency diversion to Olkiombo Airport, situated roughly 18 km from the aircraft's location, was necessary. While performing the approach to runway 09, the aircraft lost airspeed and entered a stall. This led to a crash in an open field, resulting in the total destruction of the aircraft.
Findings
- The accident resulted in one fatality (the copilot) and 19 injuries, with several individuals sustaining serious harm.
- The primary sequence of events involved a left engine failure during the initial climb, which subsequently led to an aerodynamic stall during the diversionary approach.
