What happened
On December 30, 2023, at 07:25 UTC, a Cessna 560 XLS, registration TC-LLL, operated by Kalyon Güven Hava Taşımacılığı A.Ş., was performing a commercial flight from Istanbul Atatürk Airport to Diyarbakır Airport. The aircraft was carrying two pilots, one cabin crew member, and seven passengers, including one infant.
While executing an ILS approach to runway 34R, the aircraft encountered deteriorating meteorological conditions. Although the crew had initially planned for CAVOK conditions, visibility had dropped significantly due to heavy fog. Upon touchdown, the aircraft began to slide and veer toward the left side of the runway. Despite the application of braking, the aircraft exited the runway, resulting in heavy damage to the airframe, including the left wing spar, flaps, landing gear, and tail cone components.
The investigation
The UEİM investigation examined the flight data recorder (FDR) and cockpit voice recorder (CVR), as well as pilot statements and meteorological reports. The investigation involved technical analysis by the German Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation (BFU) regarding the flight recorders.
Investigators analyzed the aircraft's maintenance history, finding that all airworthiness directives and service bulletins were up to date. The investigation also reviewed the airport infrastructure, specifically noting the absence of centerline lights on the runway, and evaluated the crew's performance during the approach and landing phases.
