What happened
During a takeoff attempt at Karachi-Quaid-e-Azam Airport, the aircraft reached a speed between 270 and 280 km/h. As the pilot-in-command attempted to initiate rotation by pulling back on the control column, the aircraft did not respond to the input. In response to this lack of aerodynamic response, the crew aborted the takeoff and applied emergency braking.
Despite the application of brakes, the aircraft could not stop before the end of the runway. The aircraft subsequently overran the paved surface, traveling approximately 500 metres while rolling. During this excursion, the nose gear was lost. The aircraft sustained damage beyond repair, though all 117 occupants managed to exit the plane without any injuries.
Findings
- The aircraft failed to respond to the pilot's attempt to rotate during the takeoff roll.
