On 9 April 2025, an ultralight aircraft crashed into trees during landing approach at Völtendorf airfield, Austria, after an aerotow flight. The pilot was killed and the aircraft was destroyed by fire.

Incident

On 9 April 2025, at approximately 13:50 local time, an ultralight aircraft departed from Völtendorf airfield (ICAO: LOAD) in an aerotow with a glider. The takeoff was conducted on runway 25. After becoming airborne, both aircraft performed a 180-degree right turn.

At an altitude of about 300 meters above ground level, the glider released from the tow and subsequently landed safely on runway 07. The tow plane also returned to Völtendorf airfield with the intention of landing on runway 07.

Accident

During the landing approach, the ultralight aircraft crashed into a group of trees approximately 200 meters before the runway threshold and about 50 meters south of the runway centerline. The impact was followed by a fire that largely destroyed the wreckage.

Fatalities

The pilot of the ultralight aircraft was killed in the accident. No other persons were involved.
