What happened
During the final approach phase toward Oslo-Fornebu airport, the aircraft experienced a stall and subsequently struck the summit of a hill. The impact occurred on Nesøya Island, situated approximately 6 km west of the airfield. The crash resulted in the total destruction of the aircraft and caused 12 fatalities, with no survivors among the occupants.
Findings
Official investigations concluded that the pilot lost control of the plane at an altitude too low to allow for any recovery maneuvers. While the exact reason for the loss of control could not be definitively established by the Commission, investigators explored two primary technical possibilities. It was suggested that ice accumulation on the stabilizer may have played a role, or alternatively, that the propellers may have transitioned to a ground fine pitch setting during the approach.
