What happened
A flight proceeding from Midway Island toward Adak in the Aleutian Islands vanished during its transit. The aircraft was engaged in a ferry flight at the time of its disappearance. No emergency communications or distress signals were transmitted by the pilot prior to the loss of contact.
Following the disappearance, search and rescue operations were initiated to locate the missing plane and its occupant. Despite these efforts, no wreckage, debris, or any other evidence regarding the aircraft's location was recovered. The mission ended with the aircraft and the pilot being declared lost without a trace.
Findings
Official investigations into the disappearance concluded that there was insufficient physical evidence to reconstruct the final moments of the flight. Because no wreckage or signals were retrieved, investigators were unable to identify specific mechanical failures or environmental factors that led to the loss of the aircraft.
