What happened
Shortly after departing from Tingo María Airport, an aircraft entered a cloud layer while maintaining an altitude of 13,000 feet. Approximately six minutes into the flight, the plane collided with the side of Mt Carpish, situated roughly 45 km southwest of the departure airfield. The wreckage remained undiscovered in a remote location until March 5.
Findings
- The flight was operating in instrument meteorological conditions (clouds) at the time of the impact.
- The collision occurred during the climb phase of the flight.
- There were 31 fatalities among the occupants of the aircraft.
