What happened
A charter flight operating between Stepanakert and Yerevan was carrying a total of 33 people, consisting of three crew members and 30 refugees. During the cruise phase of the flight over the Kalbajar district in southern Armenia, the aircraft was targeted by an Azerbaijani Sukhoi Su-25 operated by a single pilot. The attack caused the failure of two engines and led to smoke entering the passenger cabin.
In response to the damage, the crew performed an emergency descent and attempted to divert the flight to Sisian Airport. Upon reaching the airfield, the aircraft performed a belly landing and slid several hundred meters along the surface. The aircraft subsequently veered off the runway and caught fire. While all 30 passengers and one crew member evacuated without harm, both pilots sustained minor injuries. The aircraft was completely destroyed by the resulting flames.
Findings
The primary factor in the accident was the aerial attack by a fighter jet, which directly caused the loss of two engines and subsequent smoke infiltration.
