What happened
While performing a takeoff roll on runway 06, the crew of the aircraft attempted to rotate after passing the decision speed. However, the aircraft type failed to respond to the rotation command. In response to the lack of aerodynamic response, the crew executed an aborted takeoff and applied emergency braking.
Despite these efforts, the aircraft could not stop before the end of the runway. The vessel overran the paved surface and traveled approximately 420 meters. During the excursion, the aircraft struck a drainage ditch measuring 6.7 meters in depth, followed by a 2-meter-high embankment. The impact occurred at a speed of 210 km/h, causing the aircraft to burst into flames. The accident resulted in 107 fatalities and 19 injuries, which included one member of the crew.
Findings
- The aircraft failed to respond to rotation inputs after passing decision speed.
- The failure of the aircraft to respond to rotation commands led to the aborted takeoff and subsequent runway excursion.
