The crew was engaged in a training mission when the seaplane went out of control and crashed in a huge explosion some 20 miles north of Hamilton, Bermuda. All eight occupants were killed. Probable cause (official findings): Investigations were unable to determine the exact cause of the mishap.

The airplane was completing a ferry flight from Winnipeg to Ottawa with an intermediate stop in Armstrong, carrying three crew members. It was accompanied with a second Anson registered 6267 also carrying three crew members.
