Dimitris Gerogiannis is stepping down as head of Aegean Airlines after 20 years in the role. Michalis Kouveliotis will take over as chairman on 12 October, according to the Greek carrier.

Kouveliotis was previously Aegean's chief financial officer and was named deputy chairman in early 2025, a position in which he coordinated the airline's business units and prepared the leadership change.

Gerogiannis will remain with Aegean as an adviser to management, where he is expected to focus on the technical base and the training centre. He joined the company in 1999, its first year of operation, and was closely involved in building it up. Board chairman Eftichios Vassilakis described him as a co-founder and shaper of Aegean. The airline did not say who will fill the chief financial officer post Kouveliotis vacates, and no date was given for a formal shareholder vote on the change.
