Aeroméxico weighs new US routes after Washington lifts Mexico City airport limits
Aeroméxico is assessing additional flights to the United States from Mexico City after the US Transportation Department removed restrictions on new operations from the capital's two main airports.

Aeroméxico is reviewing possible new services to the United States from Mexico City after the US Department of Transportation lifted limits that had blocked Mexican carriers from adding operations from the capital's two main airports, Benito Juárez and Felipe Ángeles.
The airline's finance chief, Ricardo Sánchez, said on Monday that the company was looking at opportunities to add capacity in the US market and to restart plans that had been paused. "It is definitely something we are evaluating," Sánchez said, according to the airline.
The change opens the way for Mexican airlines to launch new frequencies and routes to the US from both terminals. According to the source, the two airports sit on one of the busiest cross-border air corridors.
Aeroméxico expects to support any expansion with a cost base it considers favourable. During its restructuring under Chapter 11 of the US Bankruptcy Code, the carrier negotiated fleet lease agreements at rates fixed below current market prices. The airline also has room to make fuller use of its existing assets, the source states.
No destinations, dates or fleet commitments have been announced.
