The Kazakh carrier is studying additional destinations in central and western Europe, its chief executive said, though any expansion would come faster with shorter routings.

Air Astana is looking at expanding its European network. Chief executive Ibrahim Canliel said the Kazakh carrier is considering several more cities in central and western Europe.

It already flies to Frankfurt and London. Frankfurt is served daily from Astana, and a route from Almaty was added last year. Canliel said the Almaty service has developed well. Both routes also feed onward European destinations sold under a codeshare with Lufthansa.

New services could come sooner if the airline could use shorter flight paths again. Air Astana currently routes around Russia. Even without that change, Canliel said the carrier is sticking to its growth plans. "We have plans for new routes in central and western Europe — really across all of Europe," he said.

No timetable, aircraft or specific destinations were given.
