Airbus delivered about 72 aircraft in September, industry sources said, close to the 73 handed over a year earlier. That was above analyst forecasts, which had clustered in the middle to high 60s. Jefferies analysts had projected 68.

The European manufacturer declined to comment on the provisional total before its monthly industrial bulletin on 8 October.

The pace held despite supply chain delays, shortages of engines and other components, and a recent quality fault linked to parts on the A321neo. Airbus also faces more quality reviews on its A330.

Shares rose close to 1.8% in morning trading after the figures circulated.

Even with the pickup, Airbus needs a record fourth quarter to meet its year-end targets. It is working to limit friction and keep A321neo deliveries flowing, with possible cost increases from longer maintenance intervals.
