Airbus forecasts aviation services market to double to over $420bn by 2045

Airbus projects the global commercial aviation services market will double from 2026 levels to more than $420 billion by 2045, driven by fleet growth and rising passenger traffic. The forecast also estimates a need for more than 2.44 million new qualified professionals.

Airbus expects the global market for commercial aviation services to double in value from 2026, reaching an estimated $420 billion or more by 2045, according to the company's Global Services Forecast. The projection puts compound annual growth at 3.8 percent across the period.

Two factors underpin the forecast. Airbus estimates the world's commercial fleet will reach 45,550 aircraft in service by 2045, and that global passenger numbers will double to 10 billion over the same period.

The manufacturer says the growth will require more than 2.44 million newly qualified professionals, along with wider use of digital operational tools.

Airbus describes the forecast as manufacturer-agnostic. Its analysis covers passenger jets with more than 100 seats and freighters with a payload capacity above 10 tonnes.

The study divides services demand into six segments projected to 2045. Off-aircraft maintenance accounts for the largest share, at $217 billion, with compound annual growth of 3.7 percent, according to the forecast.
