Airbus registers two former Malaysia Airlines A380s under Guernsey marks

Airbus has registered two of the six Airbus A380s it took back from Malaysia Airlines under Guernsey registration, according to the island's register. Both aircraft are roughly 14 years old and are the youngest of the six ex-Malaysia jets, and they are the only two A380s currently on the Guernsey register.

One of the two, serial number 114, is being converted into a flying test platform for the open-fan engine of the Rise programme, work carried out with engine maker CFM International. The aircraft flew to Abu Dhabi for maintenance in October 2025, was repainted in Shannon in July 2026 and performed a low pass in August. It has carried the Guernsey mark 2-JAYN since 2024.

The second aircraft, serial number 094, has been registered on Guernsey as 2-JEYL since May 2024. According to the article, that airframe will not return to flight operations.

Malaysia Airlines never made a success of the A380. When the carrier ordered the Airbus A330 Neo in 2022, it made the manufacturer's taking back of the six retired A380s part of the deal. Airbus then stored the six in Tarbes, France. Guernsey's register is known for transitional registrations.
