Airport biometrics measured by first-attempt verification success

A biometrics industry executive argues that first-attempt facial verification success, not lab-recorded accuracy, is the meaningful measure of how airport screening systems perform in live terminals.

First-attempt facial verification success means a passenger is verified in a single try, with no repositioning, rescanning or manual review. Matthew Insley, HID's director of global strategic alliances for biometric identity technologies, argues this measure matters more than an accuracy score from a controlled lab.

That gap, he writes, is what shows how a system performs in an actual airport. Lab results and terminal results differ.
