Algeria closes airspace to UAE-registered aircraft
Algeria has banned civil and military aircraft registered in the United Arab Emirates from its airspace, with a transitional rule allowing commercial flights to and from Algiers until the end of 2026.
Algeria has barred aircraft registered in the United Arab Emirates from entering its airspace. The ban covers both civil and military aircraft and took effect on Friday, 11 September.
A transitional provision allows commercial flights between Algiers and the UAE to continue until the end of 2026.
The measure follows Algeria's severance of diplomatic relations with the Emirates on Thursday. Algiers accused Abu Dhabi of "provocative and hostile actions" without specifying a triggering incident. The two countries have long-standing disagreements over Israel, Western Sahara, and the Emirates' role in North Africa and the Sahel.
