Alsie Express posts loss despite fresh foundation funding

Danish regional carrier Alsie Express ended the year in the red again, even after receiving a further DKK 21.5 million from the Bitten & Mads Clausens Fond.

Alsie Express ended its financial year with a loss of 1.5 million Danish kroner, about 201,000 euros. A year earlier the regional carrier, which links Sønderborg with Copenhagen, posted a profit of the same size.

Equity fell from minus 10.9 million kroner to minus 12.4 million kroner, roughly 1.66 million euros. The airline again drew substantial backing, with the Bitten & Mads Clausens Fond contributing 21.5 million kroner, around 2.88 million euros. That is less than the 27.6 million kroner, about 3.70 million euros, the foundation gave the previous year. Without those contributions the loss would have been considerably larger.

The foundation is closely tied to the family behind the industrial group Danfoss. It helped found Alsie Express in 2013 to secure the air link between Sønderborg and the capital. Danfoss is headquartered in nearby Nordborg on the island of Als.
