Amazon pauses 21 Air cargo operations after fatal Miami 767 overrun

Amazon has halted its cargo operations with 21 Air, the carrier whose Boeing 767-300 freighter ran off the runway at Miami on 6 September, killing five people.

The aircraft, which was flying for Amazon and displayed the retailer's Prime Air livery, overran runway 30 on landing. It hit vehicles and crossed a highway before stopping.

Preliminary findings from the National Transportation Safety Board point to a highly unstable approach. According to those findings, there was no sign the crew tried to go around until several seconds after touchdown.

An Amazon spokesperson, Kelly Nantel, said the company had been examining some of the circumstances around the accident. She said Amazon had decided to pause its operations with 21 Air, adding that the company would keep supporting the investigation and those affected.

Amazon uses a number of cargo airline partners for its logistics network.
