American Airlines and STARLUX launch codeshare on transpacific routes

American Airlines and STARLUX Airlines have launched a codeshare partnership that the two carriers say will expand flight options between North America and Taipei. Travellers can book itineraries to the Taiwanese capital on STARLUX-operated services from the west coast of the United States.

The airlines said the tie-up is meant to meet demand from corporate travel, tourism and visits to family and friends. The announcement describes Taipei as a destination with cultural appeal and a central role in transpacific trade and industries such as semiconductors.

Anmol Bhargava, American's Senior Vice President of Alliances, said Taipei remains a major destination for global business, visits to family and friends and leisure travel, and that the partnership with STARLUX would offer new travel options and competitive itineraries. Glenn Chai, chief executive of STARLUX Airlines, called the codeshare a significant milestone for his carrier and said American's North American network complements what STARLUX has built across Asia.

American will place its marketing code on STARLUX-operated flights. The two companies said the arrangement is intended to give passengers a smoother and more convenient journey between the two regions.
