American Airlines extends Flagship dining room access to business class fliers

American Airlines will widen access to its Flagship First dining rooms at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport and Miami International Airport, letting business class passengers into the sit-down venues for the first time.

According to the airline, the change takes effect on September 15. Before this, the dining rooms had been reserved exclusively for travelers in Flagship First cabins.

Under the new policy, customers flying in Flagship Business Plus and Flagship Business will be able to use the dining rooms on long-haul international flights, transcontinental routes, and services to Hawaii. The move broadens what had been one of the more exclusive parts of American's airport experience.

The dining rooms offer table service, with menus distinct from the standard lounge buffet offerings found elsewhere in American's Flagship Lounge network. Access has historically been tied to cabin of travel rather than loyalty status alone, so eligibility depends on the specific ticket purchased for a qualifying route.

American described no changes for Flagship Lounges at other airports and gave no indication of similar expansions being planned elsewhere in the near term. It also did not detail how the change might affect capacity or wait times at the two dining rooms, which have limited seating compared with general lounge areas.

The adjustment comes amid a broader industry trend of airlines adjusting perks across premium cabins to differentiate service tiers and encourage upsells to business class tickets on long-haul routes.
