American Airlines plans to put Starlink satellite internet on its mainline fleet, the carrier said. Installations start in early 2027 and will cover more than 1,000 Airbus and Boeing aircraft.

Once fitted, the fleet would be one of the largest Starlink-equipped fleets in the world, according to the airline. The satellite connection is expected to deliver speeds of up to 1 gigabit per second.

In May, American said more than 500 Airbus aircraft would get Starlink. The airline now says that programme has been widened to the entire mainline fleet of more than 1,030 aircraft.
