American Airlines to resume Miami-Caracas flights on September 3

American Airlines will resume flights between Miami and Caracas on September 3, provided Maiquetía International Airport is operating normally. The route will return to a daily schedule, matching the frequency in place before service was suspended on June 24 following a pair of earthquakes that struck Venezuela.

The earthquakes killed thousands of people and caused significant damage to the country's main international airport. American had only recently restarted service to Venezuela at the time. It became the first U.S. carrier to fly there again on April 30, after a partial easing of tensions between Washington and Caracas.

Before that restart, no U.S. passenger or cargo airline had operated flights to Venezuela since a federal ban took effect in 2019.

American also began flying to Maracaibo on July 14 and has kept that route running throughout the disruption. Separately, the airline delivered humanitarian aid to Caracas on July 2, while regular passenger service remained grounded.

American is currently the only U.S. passenger carrier serving Venezuela. United Airlines had planned to relaunch its Houston-Caracas route in August but paused those plans after the earthquakes hit, according to the airline. No timeline for United's return has been announced.
