ANA to fly second Pokémon-liveried Boeing 787 on long-haul routes

All Nippon Airways will add a second specially painted Pokémon aircraft to its long-haul fleet starting September 18. The jet, a Boeing 787-9 registered JA923A, is called the Green Pokémon Jet. It will first fly between Tokyo Haneda and Honolulu.

According to the airline, the aircraft will then rotate across a number of international routes through the end of March 2027. Destinations mentioned include Seattle, Vancouver, Sydney, Singapore, Bangkok and Perth.

ANA said the launch coincides with an expanded partnership tied to the Pokémon Go mobile game, which will extend to 14 airports across Japan. The airline did not specify what that cooperation involves at each airport.

The carrier has used branded liveries before as part of marketing tie-ins. This brief does not go beyond what the airline has stated about the new jet and its planned routing. No pricing, capacity or configuration details for the aircraft were given.

The rollout gives ANA a second themed 787 under its Pokémon collaboration. It also extends the airline's use of special liveries to widebody aircraft on international sectors, rather than keeping the branding to domestic routes alone.
