Arkia flight from New York to Tel Aviv diverts to Gander over medical emergency
An Arkia Airbus A330 bound for Tel Aviv declared an in-flight emergency about three hours out of JFK and landed at Gander, Newfoundland, before continuing its journey.

An Arkia Israeli Airlines flight from New York to Tel Aviv diverted to Gander, Newfoundland, on Monday evening for a medical situation on board, then resumed its transatlantic crossing.
Flight IZ034, an Airbus A330-300 registered 9H-HFA, left John F. Kennedy International Airport on Monday, October 19, 2026, bound for Ben Gurion Airport. It climbed to 37,000 feet and began the ocean crossing.
About three hours in, the crew declared an in-flight emergency and transmitted squawk code 7700. Controllers directed the wide-body to Gander International Airport in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. According to the report, a sudden medical situation involving a person on board who needed immediate ground support prompted the diversion.
The A330 landed safely at Gander a little more than four hours after leaving New York, with medical staff standing by. After a short stop, it departed again for Tel Aviv and was expected to reach Ben Gurion about eight hours later.
