Axinom and Rosen Aviation launch cloud-based inflight entertainment platform

Axinom and Rosen Aviation are working together on a connected seatback platform that delivers inflight entertainment over cloud infrastructure rather than embedded hardware. The companies say it is meant to prove a full-featured entertainment service can run without on-board servers.

At the centre of the product is Axinom's On-Board Cloud software, which handles content, application logic, passenger data, personalization, and inflight retail in one place. It connects directly to the screens instead of sitting on top of an existing seatback system, giving airlines control over the passenger experience.

Airline application deployment is managed by the platform, and it is connected out of the box. Personalization is integrated with airline systems from the start. Airlines still handle content licensing. Entertainment reaches the screens through the inflight internet connection, and the screens use edge caching to reduce demand on the network.

New content or services can be managed from a single ground-based interface, and the companies say they become available across the fleet once activated. Rosen Aviation brings its work in cabin displays and certification, including experience in the business aviation market.
