Risen 916 microlight granted two FAI world speed records
A Porto Aviation Risen powered by a Rotax 916 has been ratified by the FAI for world speed records over a straight course and over a 50-kilometer closed circuit in the two-seat microlight class. A third attempt, over 100 kilometers, is still listed as under review.
The Fédération Aéronautique Internationale has ratified two world speed records set in a Porto Aviation Risen, a two-seat microlight with a Rotax 916 engine.
Pilot Alberto Rodolfo Porto flew both on Oct. 16 last year from an airfield at Alzate Brianza in northern Italy. The straight-course run averaged 453.20 km/h, roughly 244.7 knots. The closed 50-kilometer circuit averaged 432.69 km/h, about 233.6 knots.
Both fall in the FAI's RAL2T class: land-based microlights carrying two people, flown with movable aerodynamic controls and powered by a thermal engine.
Porto also flew a 100-kilometer closed circuit during the same series, averaging 431.14 km/h, or about 232.8 knots. The FAI lists that performance as a dossier under review, so it does not have the same ratified standing as the other two. Porto Aviation had announced all three attempts shortly after the flights.
The two ratified records appear on the FAI's world record listings as of Sept. 15.
