BAE Systems launches Shadow EW family for small aircraft

BAE Systems has launched a family of electronic warfare systems in a small form factor, intended for use on both crewed and uncrewed aircraft.

The Shadow EW Family consists of three separate systems, which the company says are suited to small airborne platforms. According to BAE Systems, the systems pair configurable hardware with iterative software updates aimed at countering evolving threats.

A promotional video from the company indicates the range can be integrated into platforms including glide bombs, uncrewed aerial vehicles and rotorcraft. The company also states that the systems can support mission requirements such as situational awareness, targeting, deception, survivability and collaborative effects delivery, and can be produced affordably at scale.

Rebecca Cruz, director of Shadow EW products at BAE Systems, said all platforms regardless of size now require adaptable electronic warfare capabilities to survive.
