Belgian and French police arrest 21 in Brussels Airport drug smuggling case

Authorities in Belgium and France have detained 21 people accused of belonging to an international drug network that allegedly used Brussels Airport to smuggle cocaine and cannabis.

Belgian and French authorities have arrested 21 people suspected of belonging to an international drug network that allegedly used Brussels Airport to smuggle cocaine and cannabis.

The investigation began in February 2025 after about 30 kilograms of cocaine arriving from Cancún was discovered, according to Belgian media.

Investigators said so-called pickers bought cheap flight tickets to get into the baggage hall and collect suitcases filled with drugs there. The network later allegedly recruited airport staff.

During raids on 30 September, 19 people were arrested in Belgium and two in France. Authorities seized more than 57,000 euros in cash, cryptocurrencies, eight vehicles and several weapons.

The investigation is ongoing.
