Berlin airport worker badly beaten at Air Baltic gate; passenger held
A 22-year-old passenger is in custody in Berlin on suspicion of attempted homicide after an assault on a ground worker at the gate of an Air Baltic flight to Tallinn. The injured employee has left hospital.
A 22-year-old passenger is in pre-trial custody in Berlin after an assault on an airport employee at a departure gate. Prosecutors are treating the case as attempted homicide.
The incident happened on 6 September at the gate for Air Baltic flight BT830 to Tallinn. Police say two passengers from Estonia arrived too late for boarding and were not allowed onto the flight. The 22-year-old, who police say had been drinking, is alleged to have struck a 48-year-old employee several times and with force.
The worker was seriously injured and has since been able to leave hospital. Prosecutors initially proceeded on the basis of aggravated assault before the case was reclassified.
