Bermuda airport adds biometric departure checks for US citizens

US Customs and Border Protection has rolled out Enhanced Passenger Processing at Bermuda's L.F. Wade International Airport. The system uses auto-capture cameras and biometric facial comparison to verify identity and citizenship, run law enforcement vetting, and create a crossing record.

For US citizens departing for the United States, the process is touchless and meant to be faster and more secure. CBP says identity checks take seconds, so travellers can move straight to their boarding gate. Officers can focus on the traveller interview instead of administrative tasks.

Skyport, the airport operator, invested in the technology after seeing it at Aruba's Queen Beatrix International Airport preclearance operation. The acting port director for CBP Bermuda Preclearance said the technology strengthens security while delivering a faster departure experience.
