Bomb claim by passenger halts Stuttgart airport operations

A 24-year-old man told airport staff he had a bomb in his luggage, prompting the security area to be cleared and flights to be suspended at Stuttgart on 5 October. No danger was found and operations resumed.

Stuttgart Airport suspended operations late on Monday afternoon, 5 October, after a 24-year-old man told an airport employee in the security area that he had a bomb in his luggage. The security area was cleared and flight operations were stopped.

The man had been due to fly to Hurghada.

Federal police said a search found no danger. Flight traffic resumed, but the airport said renewed security checks continued to cause disruption.

Around 3,000 people and 29 arrivals and departures were affected, according to the airport, through delays, cancellations and diversions. The man was excluded from his flight. Authorities are investigating him on suspicion of disturbing the public peace by threatening to commit a crime.
