A Cessna Citation I/SP went down in rugged terrain in Nayarit state on October 4, 2026, with Mexican media reporting both pilots were killed. The wreckage was found the next day near Los Mezquites.

A Cessna Citation I/SP crashed in the mountains of western Mexico on October 4, 2026, and was destroyed. Regional news outlets identified the aircraft as registration XB-BAR. Two people were on board. Mexican newspaper La Jornada reported that the pilot and the copilot died.

The jet left Amado Nervo International Airport in Tepic, the capital of Nayarit state, at about 16:30 local time. It was bound for Aguascalientes in central Mexico. According to the outlet NTV, its tracking signal was lost roughly 18 minutes later. Flight-tracking records showed the aircraft altered course before contact ended.

Rescuers reached the wreckage the following day, close to the community of Los Mezquites in the municipality of Ixtlán del Río. The site lies about three kilometers from the community. State police, firefighters and emergency crews had difficulty reaching it because of the rough ground.

People living nearby described seeing flames and a column of smoke rising in the mountains. Some accounts said fire was visible before the aircraft hit the ground, but an in-flight fire has not been confirmed.
