Bombardier Global 8000 cleared for London City Airport landings

Bombardier's Global 8000 business jet has been cleared by the UK Civil Aviation Authority to land at London City Airport. The approval took effect immediately, though it only covers aircraft registered in countries whose authorities have endorsed the type's steep approach supplement. London City is the only UK airfield requiring a 5.5-degree glideslope, compared with about 3 degrees at most airports, and has a declared landing distance of 1,199 meters. Type approval does not clear every individual airframe. Operators must still ensure their aircraft and crews meet requirements, and the airport runs its own approval process for business jet operators. Bombardier says the jet's leading-edge slats and braking systems give it strong short-field performance. The company says using London City can save 60 to 90 minutes over Farnborough or Luton, and notes possible nonstop arrivals from several long-haul cities.
