Brazil tightens penalties for unruly airline passengers

Brazil has introduced new rules for dealing with unruly passengers. Aviation authority Anac set out the sanctions in Resolution 800, which covers conduct affecting safety, order, or the dignity of others at airports and on board aircraft.

The rules took effect last week and distinguish three levels of seriousness: undisciplined, serious, and particularly serious misconduct. Penalties vary by violation, with fines of up to 17,500 Brazilian reais, or roughly 2,800 euros. Those penalised can also be barred from boarding domestic flights for as long as twelve months.

The new rules apply to Brazilian domestic air traffic.
