Cable damage and power outage disrupt flights at two Texas airports

A damaged fibre optic cable halted departures bound for Houston George Bush Intercontinental, while a partial power failure at Austin-Bergstrom forced carriers to adjust schedules. Both airports were operating normally by the following morning.

Technical problems disrupted flights at two major Texas airports on the evening of Tuesday, 13 October, according to the aviation news outlet aeroTELEGRAPH.

At Houston George Bush Intercontinental, a damaged fibre optic cable caused delays. The US Federal Aviation Administration imposed a temporary stop on departures bound for the airport between 18:30 and 20:00 local time. Operations returned to normal at around 21:15, and repairs were finished by Wednesday morning.

At Austin-Bergstrom, power failed partially in the Barbara Jordan Terminal at about 17:50, forcing airlines to adjust individual arrivals and departures. Full power was restored shortly after 20:00.

The cause of the outage was initially unclear.
