Canada plans concessions for four largest airports

Canada will negotiate long-term concessions to operate its four busiest airports, a move that comes as two major institutional investors have launched a C$50 billion fund sized for such deals.

Canada will negotiate long-term concessions to operate its four busiest airports, Prime Minister Mark Carney said on September 15. The airports named are Toronto Pearson International (YYZ), Montréal–Trudeau International (YUL), Vancouver International (YVR) and Calgary International (YYC).

The Maple Fund, a C$50 billion partnership between CPP Investments and Brookfield Asset Management, was unveiled hours earlier on the same stage. The fund amounts to roughly US$36 billion.

The fund was not announced as a response to the concession plan. Its structure indicates it was set up in advance to write checks of the scale the airport deals would require.
