Cessna 150 collides with Pennsylvania State Police helicopter, pilot killed
A small plane struck a police helicopter near Carlisle Airport in Pennsylvania, killing the Cessna's pilot while two helicopter occupants survived with injuries.
A collision between a light aircraft and a police helicopter near Carlisle Airport in Pennsylvania has left the airplane's pilot dead. The pilot, a 57-year-old flight instructor who also worked as an emergency medic, was flying a Cessna 150 at the time of the crash.
The helicopter involved was a Bell 407 operated by the Pennsylvania State Police. Two people on board were injured but are reported to be in stable condition.
According to the National Transportation Safety Board, which is investigating the accident, the helicopter was only a few meters above the ground during a training exercise when the Cessna approached from behind and above. The two aircraft collided and both went down.
No further details on the cause of the collision have been released. The investigation by the NTSB is ongoing.
