Cessna Citation CJ1 crashes and burns during takeoff at Pennsylvania airport

A Cessna Citation CJ1 left the runway during departure from Bedford County Airport in Pennsylvania and caught fire, leaving the pilot and copilot with injuries that were not life-threatening, the FAA said.

A Cessna Citation CJ1 crashed on departure from Bedford County Airport in Pennsylvania on October 7, 2026, the Federal Aviation Administration said. The crash occurred at about 10:45 a.m. local time, according to the agency, which is investigating.

Only the pilot and copilot were on board. Both survived with injuries described as not life-threatening and were taken to Bedford Hospital.

Bedford Fire Chief Gary Cooper said the jet appeared to have gone off the runway, crossed a road and come to rest in a field nearby. Firefighters found the aircraft burning when they reached it.

Video from the scene showed heavy damage to the jet and to a fence along the airport perimeter.

The aircraft, registered N600AL, had been scheduled to depart for Martin State Airport in Middle River, Maryland, near Baltimore, according to flight records cited by a local outlet.

Crews from the Bedford, Everett and Alum Bank fire departments responded, along with Bedford Ambulance.
