Delta to add Detroit-Athens and Boston-Venice seasonal routes in 2027

Delta Air Lines will start two seasonal routes to Europe in 2027 and shift several existing seasonal services to earlier start dates. The carrier said it will connect Detroit with Athens and Boston with Venice.

The Venice service is to operate four times weekly from May 7 through Oct. 29, 2027. The Athens route is to run three times weekly from June 8 through Oct. 28, 2027. The Wayne County Airport Authority said Detroit has not previously had a nonstop link to Athens.

Delta said the Venice flights will use an Airbus A330-300 and the Athens flights an A330-200. The new routes are to complement its planned Austin-Paris service, which is scheduled to begin March 27, 2027.

Jeff Arinder, Delta's vice president of international network planning, said in a news release that adding European destinations from Detroit and Boston, making Austin a new gateway to Europe, and extending service on several popular routes gives customers more choice and flexibility.

Several seasonal connections will begin earlier than previously planned. Service from Minneapolis-St. Paul and Detroit to Rome will start in March instead of May, and Seattle-Rome will move up to April. Delta is also adding flights on routes it said have seen higher consumer demand, including New York-JFK to Catania, Italy, and Porto, Portugal.
