Drones halt Luxembourg Airport operations; Luxair diverts 17 flights
Luxembourg Airport suspended flights for several hours on Friday evening after unauthorised drone activity was detected near and then over the airfield. Luxair diverted 17 flights, affecting more than 1,800 passengers.
Luxembourg Airport halted flights around 21:00 on Friday, 18 September, after unauthorised drones were detected. They were first spotted near the airport grounds, then over the site itself. Operations resumed overnight into Saturday. Delays and further disruption remain possible.
Luxair diverted 17 flights. According to the airline, aircraft went to Cologne/Bonn, Brussels, Frankfurt-Hahn, Liege, Paris Charles de Gaulle, Basel/Mulhouse/Freiburg and Strasbourg. More than 1,800 passengers were affected, the carrier said.
The airport said it is still monitoring the situation with the relevant authorities and air traffic control.
